The coil includes a protective casing (1) housing a reel with disc (12) centred on the coil axis and presenting a cylindrical rim (3) with two recesses (4,5). A wall (6) with a slit (7) separates the recesses which receive the fibre extremities. The optical fibre (8) is wound in the reel starting from a point (13) which separates two windings (11,12), each made up of several layers of fibre. The extremities of the windings engage the two recesses on the reel disc. A number of holes (17) are provided along the two recesses along a line parallel with the coil axis. The holes receive supporting brackets for the first layer of each of the two windings.
