PURPOSE: To provide unit cells of an alkaline storage battery which reduce lowering of discharge capacity and improve cycle life. CONSTITUTION: End plates 33 each of which comprises a flat plate part and a rectangular frame part are placed at both the right and left ends of an assembly of unit cells 31. Straps 34 each in the form of a banded plate and the end plates 33 are fixed together with metallic rivets 38 and the assembly of unit cells 31 is thereby bound, so that while increases in weight and volume due to these binding members are minimized, internal pressure buildup due to charge and discharge cycles and the dimensional changes of the unit cells due to the expansion of the cell assembly are restrained.
