PURPOSE: To improve transmission efficiency without increasing delay by multiplexing and transmitting the ATM start delimiter, an ATM cell, and an ATM finish delimiter at a transmitting side, and executing cell extraction by discriminating the ATM cell by the start and the finish delimiters at a receiving side. CONSTITUTION: A fiber channel frame 1 is transmitted while being attached with the delimiters 2, 3 in its front and rear. The ATM cell 6 is multiplexed between the frame 1 and another one while being attached with the delimiters 7, 8 at its front and rear. The delimiters 7, 8 are defined in order to discriminate the ATM call 6 by a code string other than the delimiter group for a fiber channel like the delimiters 2, 3 or an idle signal 4. This multiplex signal is encoded by using an 8B/10B code, and a generated serial signal is transmitted to a fiber channel transmission medium. Then, at the receiving side, this serial signal is decoded, and the cell 6 is extracted by recognizing data from the detection of the delimiter 7 to the detection of the delimiter 8 to be the ATM cell 6. |
