PURPOSE: To selectively sense carbon monoxide gas by forming a pair of electrodes of perovskite type composite oxide on the surface of the substrate of oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte, and covering one of the electrodes with oxide catalyst. CONSTITUTION: Electrodes 2, 3 of perovskite type composite oxide are formed on the upper surface of a substrate 1 of yttria stabilized zirconia of oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte, and the one electrode 2 is covered with combustible gas oxidizing catalyst layer 4. The electrodes 2, 3 are connected to a measuring unit via leads 5, 6. Here, the composite oxide is the composite oxide of rare earth element and transition metal element, and the oxide catalyst is made of one or a combination selected from a group consisting of oxides of Mg, Ca and Ru, Rh. Thus, the electrodes of the composite oxide are used, and a simple structure of covering the one electrode with general catalyst is performed, and a detecting element which can selectively sense carbon monoxide gas is obtained. |
