Sheet edge position measuring device

The device uses a light source (4) and a cooperating photodetector (6) spaced in a plane perpendicular the surface of the sheets (3). The photodetector is oscillated in the direction of the sheet edge (2), for measuring the edge position at adjacent points along the edge. The photodetector may be displaced linearly in a plane parallel to the plane (5) of the sheets, or in a pendulum movement and is pref. provided by a CCD sensor coupled to an electronic evaluation stage, determining the sheet edge position from the shadow profile.
