A method for heating a metal ingot for a injection molding comprises the steps of determining a time t1 for heating up to a set temperature in a test furnace by using a thermocouple and a timer in advance, of heating the ingot for that period of time t1 in an actual furnace and of measuring a temperature T1 at that time by a radiation thermometer, and of maintaining the metal ingot at this temperature by controlling the heat input. A metal ingot heating system comprising heating means 42, evacuating means 5, inert gas supplying means 6 and a control circuit 80 for controlling operation of the evacuating means, gas supplying means and the power fed to the heating means is characterised by the presence of an oxygen sensor 7 for detecting an oxygen concentration within an atmosphere.
