Oil soluble dispersants suitable for incorporation into lubricating oils and having improved compatibility with fluoroelastomers are made by reacting a polyamine with a terpolymeric acylating agent derived from a high molecular weight polyolefin containing at least 30% of terminal vinylidene radicals, an * small Greek alpha *-olefin of up to 28 carbon atoms, and an unsaturated acidic reactant, the polyamine being reacted initially with less than all of the terpolymeric acylating agent and then with at least one further charge of the said acylating agent. |
