PURPOSE: To provide a boron carbonitride compd. having a uniform compsn. represented by BC6 N2 and specified diffraction peaks in a high yield by bringing an unsatd. nitrile compd. and a boron halide into an addition reaction and firing the resultant product in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION: A nitrile compd. contg. a C-C unsatd. bond such as acrylonitrile and a boron halide such as boron trichloride are brought into reaction to synthesize an addition compd. of them and this compd. is fired at about 500-2,000 deg.C in a nonoxidizing atmosphere such as nitrogen to obtain the objective boron carbonitride compd. contg. at least C, N and B in a molar ratio of 6:2:1 and having diffraction peaks in the ranges of 20-30 deg. and 40-45 deg. (2θ) measured by X-ray diffraction with CuKαrays. The boron carbonitride compd. is suitable for use as a corrosion resistant material, an electronic material, etc. |
