PURPOSE: To perform high quality polishing to an end part of a workpiece by continuously decelerating a relative feed speed between the workpiece and a polishing tool in the end part of the workpiece. CONSTITUTION: A polishing tool 1 is fed to be moved at a fixed feed speed in except an end part of a workpiece 5, and in the case that the polishing tool 1 leads to a prescribed position P of two times or more a diameter (d of a base seat 3 (2d+α,αis constant) of the polishing tool 1 from the end part of the workpiece 5, the feed speed V1 of the polishing tool 1 is continuously decelarated, finally to decelarate a feed speed V of the polishing tool 1 in an end part position E of the workpiece 5 to about 1/2 to 1/5) the fixed feed speed V1. Thus by obtaining a sufficient polishing depth, since the end part of the workpiece 5 can be sufficiently polished, necessity for cutting off tlje end part of the workpiece 5 is eliminated.
