PURPOSE: To obtain an electrochemically stable liquid crystal compound large inΔεvalue, and highly compatible with existing liquid crystal compounds, to obtain a liquid crystal composition containing this compound, and to obtain a liquid crystal display element using this composition. CONSTITUTION: This liquid crystal compound is expressed by general formula F-(CH)n -E-(CH2 CH2 )k -G-(CH2 CH2 )l -L-(CH2 CH2 )m (n is an integer of 1 10; k, l and m are each an integer of 0-2; ring E is 1,4-cyclohexylene group or 1,4- phenylene group where at least one hydrogen atom on the six-membered ring may be substituted with fluorine atom; G and L are each a covalent bond, or 1,4-cyclohexylene group or 1,4-phenylene group where at least one hydrogen atom on the six-membered ring may be substituted with fluorine atom; ring Z is (F-substituted) 1,4-phenylene group; Q is a covalent bond or O; Y is a 1-3C fluoroalkyl group or F; when ring E is 1,4-cyclohexylene group and G and/or L is covalent bond(s), (k+l+m)≠0 and when Q is O, Y is not F).
