The hammer mechanism consists of a spring (1) actuated by a check (2) to transmit a movement via a retaining pin (3) to a hammer shank (5). The retaining pin has a lug (7) facing a fixed stop (8), so that when the hammer has advanced by the amount permitted by the check the pin is halted by the stop. This increases the tension on the spring and holds the pin against the hammer shank until the key is released. The lug can be fitted to the finger so it can be slid along it to permit an individual adjustment of the stop position, and the spring can be connected to the check by an end extension.
