PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording medium having satisfactory surface roughness, superior reliability and electromagnetic transducing characteristics by a successive coating system. CONSTITUTION: A nonmagnetic middle layer having 0.5-3.0μm thickness is formed on at least one side of a nonmagnetic substrate and a magnetic layer consisting essentially of ferromangetic powder and a binder and having 0.1-0.5μm thickness is formed on the middle layer to obtain the objective magnetic recording medium. The magnetic layer is formed at least while the middle layer is in a dry state and the middle layer contains an inorg. material B having 10-50nm average particle diameter and a Mohs hardness of <=7, an inorg. material C having 100-500nm average particle diameter and a Mohs hardness of >=9, carbon black, a lubricant and a binder. The resultant magnetic recording medium has the middle layer excellent in electric conductivity, surface properties and strength and this medium is excellent in electromagnetic transducing characteristics, physical characteristics, etc. |
