PURPOSE: To obtain a rubber composition in which short fibers have been well dispersed in a polymer without suffering interlocking by kneading a polymer together with short reinforcing fibers and a softener and then kneading the mixture together with a reinforcing agent, etc. CONSTITUTION: A polymer is kneaded together with short reinforcing fibers and a softener to disperse the fibers into the polymer. This masterbatch is kneaded together with a reinforcing agent, a filler, an antioxidant, a vulcanization accelerator, a vulcanizing agent, etc., to produce the objective composition. The addition of the softener in the first kneading step not only serves to compatibilize the fibers with the polymer to improve fiber dispersion into the polymer, but also prevents the fibers from interlocking and becoming cottony. |
