PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a method capable of previewing an image during the transfer of the image, and at the time of detecting that the image is not a required one, terminating its transfer at an early stage. SOLUTION: An image is transformed into plural decomposition levels 12, 14 by using discrete wavelet transformation. Each decomposition level consists of plural sub-images LL, LH, HL, HH capable of reconstructing an image representation of a still image. Processing is started from a reference decomposition level 14 for applying a low image resolution level, a decomposition level for applying a high image resolution level 12 is progressively processed and the decomposition levels 12, 14 are transmitted. In each decomposition level, various sub-image rows are arrayed or crossed with adjacent blocks and all the data of a single row in the single decomposition level are simultaneously transmitted. A transfer receiving end receives respective row blocks and reconstructs and displays them. An image of low resolution is displayed at first and the image is gradually updated and cleared in each row until required high resolution is obtained. |
