PURPOSE: To obtain a highly orientation-controlled aromatic compound thin film which is suitable for a liquid crystal thin film, a photoelectric transducer, a nonlinear optical element, etc. CONSTITUTION: An organic thin film is prepared by a process in which halogenide ion or halogen is adsorbed on a metallic substrate, and then an aromatic compound is adsorbed on the metallic substrate. It is preferable that the halogenide ion or the halogen is adsorbed on the metallic substrate before the metallic substrate being immersed in the solvent of an unsaturated aromatic compound. In this way, the halogenide ion or the halogen adsorbed on the metallic substrate reduces the adsorption force between the aromatic compound and the metal surface, promotes the self-organization of the aromatic compound, and improves the orientation of the organic thin film prepared. |
