PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce harmful substances such as hydrocarbons contained in exhaust gas in an engine exhaust system. SOLUTION: An exhaust gas discharged from an engine is passed through a main catalyst converter 35 of a light-off temperature, through a molecular sieve structure 10, and through a burn-off catalyst converter 40 in sequence. The molecular sieve structure of a desorption temperature has the first substantially unobstructed flow region 15 and the second substantially unobstructed flow region adjacent to the first flow region. A part of the exhaust gas passing through the molecular sieve structure passes through the first flow region 15 to heat the converter 40 to a light-off temperature, and another part of the exhaust gas passes through the second flow region to make hydrocarbon and others be adsorbed on the molecular sieve structure. |
