PURPOSE: To facilitate the insertion and the inducing of a probe and the observa tion and diagnosis of a part to be diagnosed by performing a scanning by an ultrasonic wave flatly ahead in the axial direction of a thin catheter-shaped ultrasonic probe. CONSTITUTION: Arrangement is done so as to have a hollow tube 1 made of a flexible material in a fine diameter to allow the inserting thereof into a body cavity of a subject, a scanning mechanism part 2 which is provided at one end face 7 of the hollow tube 1 to perform a scanning motion free to oscillate about a point on the axis of the hollow tube 1 and an ultrasonic vibrator 3 which is provided at the tip part of the scanning mechanism section 2 while being so formed to let an ultrasonic wave 11 generated be focused (10) at a specified distance and transmits the ultrasonic wave 11 into or receives it from a body cavity of the subject scanning it by a scanning motion of the scanning mechanism 2. Thus, a scanning by the ultrasonic wave 11 is performed flatly ahead in the axial direction of a catheter-shaped probe to obtain an ultrasonic tomographic image, thereby the insertion and inducing of the probe and the observation and diagnosis of a part to be diagnosed can be facilitated. |
