PURPOSE: To facilitate the confirmation of input and to reduce erroneous input by performing display in a large character size by a firmware during the input of numerals and characters. CONSTITUTION: When an application program 5 stores the character code string of the numerals and the characters, etc., to be displayed in a display data memory 7 and calls the firmware 6, the firmware 6 reads a pertinent font from an 8×8 dot font memory 14 based on the character code string and displays it on a liquid crystal display. Then, at the ti.me of inputting a part of the entire display, an item number for instance, the application program 5 stores the character code string corresponding to the item number to be inputted in an item name memory 8 and calls the firmware 6. The called firmware 6 saves the contents of the entire display displayed on a display screen, displays the numerals and the characters of the inputted item number larger than the character size in the case of the entire display, detects input completion and recovers the saved display contents.
