The device includes a transformer (TC) which couples the storage unit into a high voltage feed line. In normal operation, voltage is converted to a DC level, smoothed and then chopped before being applied to the storage inductance (BS). A shunt superconductor inductance (1) allows power to charge up, but not discharge. When a main line voltage interruption is sensed, the superconductor inductance is switched, so that the storage inductor can temporarily provide the stored energy as a voltage back-up source on the main line.
