Optical fibre deflection device for optical signal attenuation

The deflection device has a guide slot for the optical fibre provided by a pair of cooperating guide posts (5') attached to a cylinder, which can be rotated through a given angle for bending the optical fibre passed between the guide posts. The cylinder normally lies in the position in which the optical fibre passes in a straight path between the guide posts and is deflected from this end position by a stepping motor. A pair of optical fibres may be passed between the guide posts at right angles to one another, so that one optical fibre is deflected when the other passes straight through and vice versa.
