PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool holder being compactly and inexpensively manufacturable and requiring no integrated high frequency feeder and exchangeable power source at actuating time. SOLUTION: A tool holder has a receiving part 11 being connected to a machine spindle, a tool receiving part and the like on one end 13 and having a head 14 on the other end. The receiving part has a cylindrical opening part 16, and a housing 12 is housed in this opening part to be guided nonrotatably but displaceably in the shaft direction. The housing has a cylindrical opening part 24, and a quick exchange insert tool 26 for a tool 27 is inserted into and connected to this opening part. An inner signal device 47 produces a disturbance signal which identifies a damaged or destroyed tool in response to relative displacement between the head and the quick exchange insert tool.
