PURPOSE: To provide a small diameter steel wire for arc welding of excellent wire feedability by applying Mo disulfide, etc., of the prescribed amount, the fatty acid, etc., of the prescribed amount having the melting point over the prescribed value, and the lubricant of prescribed amount which is liquid at normal temperature. CONSTITUTION: The wire pulled out of a spool 2 is fed to a conduit cable 1 and a torch 4 by a feeding motor 3 to achieve the welding. The lubricant is applied to the steel wire for the arc welding. The lubricant having the composition consisting of 5-50wt.% one or two or more kinds of Mo disulfide, W disulfide and polytetrafluoroethylene, 3-40wt.% one or two or more kinds of fatty acid whose melting point of >=50 deg.C, ester of monohydric or dihydric alcohol of fatty acid, and petroleum wax, and the balance the lubricant which is liquid at normal temperature is contained by 0.20-1.80g per 10kg of the wire. The small diameter steel wire for the arc welding free from the clogging of the conduit cable 1, the deposition of the lubricant composition on the feeding roll, or the slip of the wire, small in the friction resistance, and excellent in the wire feedability can be obtained. |
