The invention concerns a method of protecting the free inner bow end of a facebow during orthodontic treatment, wherein the protective device can be secured to the inner bow at any time without the need for soldering. If the inner bow moves out of the molar tube, its pointed end is protected all-around by a soft, resilient and wider shock-absorbing member. In this way the risk of stab wounds to the skin, mucosa and, in particular, the eyes during orthodontic treatment involving headgear is avoided.
