Miniaturised multichamber thermocycler, for processing liq. samples, comprises: (a) numerous sample chambers (2) in a body (1) formed by microsystem technology such that /- 1 chamber wall, forming the base (3), is of high thermal conductivity but low mass; (b) connection of chambers (2) to a heat sink (4) via /- 1 bridge (5,7), the size and material of which are chosen to provide a low heat conductivity, i.e. specific conductivity below 5 W/Km. The chambers are provided with /- 1 heating element (6) which is able, in conjunction with a chamber wall (which may be (31)) that serves as a heat-equalising layer, to provide a homogeneous temp. distribution in a liq. sample in the chambers.
