Endotracheal tube for intubation anaesthetic

The endotracheal tube (10) has a main low pressure cuff, high volume cuff (18) near the distal end of the tube shaft (14) positioned centrally between two high pressure cuffs (20,22). These two flanking cuffs are inflated independently from the main cuff. An application channel (42) is provided on the tube shaft which leads to circular channels (44,46) arranged between the central cuff and the flanking cuffs. When the tube is inserted into the trachea, a substance such as a local anaesthetic or other medication can be applied via the application channel. By selective inflation of the cuffs, the medication can be applied where required without the surgeon having to remove the tube.
