The invention relates to a cash drawer having a box-shaped bottom part (10) and a lid (24) articulated pivotably on the latter and having a multiplicity of compartments (28) which are arranged in succession and which are separated from one another by partition walls (30) directed parallel to the front wall of the bottom part (10) facing the operator. Articulated on the upper edge of the limiting wall (30) of each compartment remote from the operator is a press-down plate (52), the latter being prestressed upwards by spring means (64, 68). The design of the partition walls (30) allows easier access to the banknote bundles placed in the compartments. <IMAGE>
