A method for preparing an anti-reflective coating is provided which comprises the steps of applying a first coating composition containing an alcohol solution of a silicon alkoxide, at least one metal alkoxide of the formula M(OR)4, an acid and water, where M is a metal selected from the group consisting of Ti, Sn, In and Zr and R is an alkyl group, on the outer surface of a panel to form a first layer; drying the panel at about 40 DEG -80 DEG C. to form a first layer; applying a second coating composition containing an alcohol solution of a silicon alkoxide, a salt selected from the group consisting of KCl, KNO3, CH3COOK, NaCl, NaNO3, CH3COONa, NH4Cl, NH4NO3 and CH3COONH4, an acid and water onto the first layer to form a second layer; and heating the first and second layers coated on the outer surface of a panel.
