Process for making and filling salt storage cavities for gases

Process for putting gaseous products in a salt storage cavity (3) formed by cleaning out a salt mass (2) and filled with brine (5) once the cleaning is complete. The cavity comprises a base (31), a vault (30) and a drilled shaft (1) for the cleaning opening into the vault and linking the cavity with the surface. This shaft also acts as the injection shaft for introducing the gaseous product to be stored. The process includes drilling a connected extraction shaft (4) from the surface near the injection shaft to reach the cavity just above its base and extract the brine as the gaseous product enters through the injection shaft. Also claimed is the use of the process to remove brine from a salt containing insoluble projecting blocks or salt which can detach itself from the wall during brine extraction.
