The invention concerns a shoe (1) for horses' hooves, comprising a substantially horseshoe-shaped sole (2) and wall elements (3) which can be secured against the outside surface of the hoof horn (11), the wall elements (3) being made of a thermoplastic material. The shoe (1) is at least in places oversized before it is put on the hoof (11), but can be fitted on to the hoof (11) by the application of heat. The invention enables, in particular, the shoes (1) to be fitted on hooves of different kinds inexpensively and using simple equipment. In addition, the stresses which act on the shoes (1) when they are worn and while they are being used are accommodated in optimum fashion. This is achieved by means of a cross-piece (4) which runs between the two sides (2a, 2b) of the horseshoe-shaped sole (2) and which, when heated, changes the shape of the shoe (1) from oversized to the correct fit.
