A camera (100) has a built-in microprocessor (2) linked to the lens (5), shutter (7), auxiliary lighting system (9) and film (11) for semi-automatic use. The same computer is linked to an internal input unit (15), by which the speed and sensitivity of the film etc. is transmitted, and an external input unit (200) through which the photographer can input brief information regarding the subject of the photographs being taken. A display panel (36) in the camera housing has sections showing the date, film progress, battery condition, lighting values, auxiliary lighting, film speed, daytime manual operation mode, night synchronised operation and a 7 x 14 dot matrix which shows any subject information stored (31) in abbreviated form. This may be printed on the film.
