A method for diluting and preserving rabbit semen by preparing a citrated liquid diluent, adding liquid gelatin at around 50 DEG C, allowing the temperature of the liquid mixture to fall to around 37 DEG C, i.e. the temperature of the freshly collected rabbit semen which is then added to the mixture, optionally bubbling carbon dioxide through said mixture for a few seconds, sealing the container immediately after bubbling, and allowing the temperature to fall to a storage or transport temperature of around 0 and 15 DEG C at which the added gelatin is completely gelled. The method is useful for artificially inseminating rabbits. |
