<p>A material treatment apparatus for impregnating a treatment liquid into or coating it onto a material, comprises a treatment tank to contain the treatment liquid, conveyor means arranged to carry pieces of material into the treatment bath against any natural buoyancy of the material to a depth sufficient to subject the material to a predetermined degree of hydrostatic or hydrostatic and hydraulic pressure, and to carry the pieces of material from the tank, the depth to which the material is submerged being controllable to control the hydrostatic or hydrostatic and hydraulic pressure to which the material is subjected within the treatment tank. The apparatus of the invention is particularly suited for impregnating preservative chemicals or fire retardant chemicals into wood.</p> |
