Exhaust gas purification appts. for diesel engine exhausts

Exhaust gas purification process comprises the steps: passing the exhaust gases through a filter to remove solid particles and similar; heating the filter to burn the solids deposited on the filter; setting the increase of average temp. in the filter to no more than 10 deg C/min for average filter temps. not below 400 deg C, when the filter is heated. Also claimed are: (i) an exhaust gas purification process as above where the filter has an oxidation catalytic converter, and the average filter temp. is not below 200 deg. C; and (ii) exhaust gas purification devices for carrying out the above processes, having a filter in a casing, feed and exit pipes, filter temp. sensor and heater and a control area to regulate the heater energy supply according to the sensor.
