A host computer (101) issues a copy command of a SCSI protocol to a destination data recorder (102r) through a SCSI bus (76). Upon receiving the copy command, the destination data recorder (102r) first issues a one-byte read command of the SCSI protocol to another data recorder (102t) that supplies data. When the size of a block to be transferred is not one byte, the difference is returned to the destination data recorder (102r) as an error byte.
