Fermentation detector incorporates bung-mounted dual material membrane

An assembly measures the presence of /- 1 volatile constituent within a fermenting liq. It consists of a housing (2) enclosing a sensor (3) to detect one of the constituents and a permeable membrane (6) resting on a support. The membrane (6) separates liq. from the carrier gas delivered through a passage (7) within the support. The carrier gas is supplied through an inlet tube (9) and flows to an outlet (11) through the sensor (3). The novelty is that the support forms a bung (5) within an opening (4) in the housing (2) which is covered by the permeable membrane (6) on the bung-face (5). The permeable membrane (6) consists of /- 2 layers esp. silicon and poly-tetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), each of different permeable resistance to the volatile constituents. The housing (2) may be adjusted on the side of the opening (4) by movement of the membrane (6) on a base-plate (18).
