The invention concerns a procedure for installing a pipe or similar object in the ground. The invention concerns in addition equipment for pulling a pipe,or similar longitudinal object 5, by the use of suitable equipment 1 which moves on the surface of the ground. The pulling equipment comprises a pull "beak" 2 which penetrates into the ground, the lower part of which is fitted with a fastening device 13 to fasten a towing point 4 onto the longitudinal object 5. In addition, there is a movable softening apparatus 3 to form an effectively pipe-shaped ready-made channel 6 in the ground ahead of of the piece 5 which is being pulled. The towing equipment is designed to move along the installation line, whereby the beak 2 with its attached softener 3 pulls the piece 5, directly or indirectly connected to the beak, into the pre-formed effectively pipe-shaped channel 6. <IMAGE>
