<p>A backflush conduit (38) for an automatic backflushing filter (10) having an inlet portion (62) with a symmetrical converging bell-shaped cross section, an outlet portion (60) with a generally cylindrical shape, and a converging and reorienting transition portion (64) connecting the inlet and outlet portions. Converging convex surfaces (66, 68) of the bell-shaped opening (62) smooth fluid inflow and prevent fluid separation. The transition portion (64) interior contour redirects the fluid flow without inducing turbulence, resulting in more efficient backflushing to clean the entire filter element (26) even at small element pore sizes.</p> |
