The invention relates to a device for washing fruits with external depressions, such as peppers. The device comprises a roller belt, in which the outside of the rollers is fitted with a soft, preferably absorbent material. The device also has spraying and brushing means in order to spray the fruit with a liquid or clean them with brushes respectively, during transportation of the fruits across the conveyor. The brushing means comprises preferably one or more brushes that should preferably be positioned crosswise above the transportation belt; the said brushes should preferably rotate around basically vertical shafts. Adjacent brushes can rotate in the opposite direction. Drying means can be fitted downstream from the brushing and spraying mechanism, e.g. a fan, a strip curtain or brushes made of fabric. The rollers on the roller belt should preferably be constructed from roller bodies of alternately larger and smaller diameters.
