A refrigeration system for use with a refrigeration fluid including ammonia, the system comprising a compressor in communication with the refrigeration fluid, and an electric motor drivingly connected to the compressor, the motor contacting the refrigeration fluid and including a stator and a rotor mounted for rotation relative to the stator, and at least one of the stator and the rotor including a component formed of material selected from the group consisting of: polyphenylene sulfide, poly (aryl ether ether ketone), and combinations thereof.
