A method is described for marking the reverse side of a picture carrier coated with a thermoplastic polymer with the aid of a cooling cylinder, on the surface of which patterns, symbols or markings are etched or engraved. In this etching or engraving, a certain difference in relief and lustre is maintained between the cooling cylinder surface and the patterns, symbols or other markings applied to it, so that the embossing of the rear side does not cause any impressions in the front side of the coated carrier, which do not cause any fogging or desensitisation effects in the photographic emulsion later applied to the front side. ……
