PURPOSE: To exactly display animation images with a liquid crystal display device of an active matrix type. CONSTITUTION: A central pixel electrode 101 and a peripheral pixel electrode 102 enclosing the central pixel electrode 101 are arranged in a pixel region. An electric field is first impressed on liquid crystals by the peripheral pixel electrode 102 to delay timing by the prescribed time and the electric field is impressed on the liquid crystals by the central pixel electrode 101. The delay in the action of the liquid crystals in the central part of the pixel region by the influence of the liquid crystals around the pixel region is eliminated and the liquid crystals of the pixel region are apparently and substantially simultaneously responded at a high speed.
