PURPOSE: To attain quick changeover control between the high resolution image pickup mode and the normal resolution image pickup mode by the use of a simple configuration by providing the device with a specific optical filter and a means controlling a polarizing angle of a polarizing angle variable element of an optical path shift block. CONSTITUTION: An optical filter block 14 is made up of an optical path shift block 15 shifting an optical path to select a spatial cut-off frequency and an optical low pass block 16. An incident light is given to the optical low pass block 16 comprising a single or plural plates of double refraction via the optical path shift block 15 comprising a polarizing plate, the polarizing angle variable element and a plate of double refraction and the optical path is shifted by controlling the polarizing angle of the polarizing angle variable element by a control means. The polarizing angle of the polarizing angle variable element is switched in a timing synchronously with a solid-state image pickup element drive signal depending on the high resolution image pickup mode and the normal resolution image pickup mode by the control means to apply quick changeover control depending on the high resolution image pickup mode and the normal resolution image pickup mode. |
