The method is to control the reading operation of a semiconductor memory device by a reading cycle control signal using an address transition detecting signal by: enabling the reading cycle control signal when the address transition signal is enabled; and disabling the reading cycle control signal by sensing that a read data is inputted into a data output buffer.
