The nut (5) on the surgical forceps is formed by segments of a cylinder. It is contracted by external pressure so as to engage with the spindle thread. The segments can be joined to each other by diametral springs. they can be housed in a cage (4) enclosing the spindle, having ramp faces via which they work against mating guide ramps inclined towards the spindle. They can be coupled together by guide pins parallel to the springs. The nut can have an oval external surface.
