The arm separation adjuster comprises a long spindle (6) which extends beyond and between two longitudinal sides (2.3,2.4) of the seat. The spindle can rotate freely relative to the sides and has from its centre part opposite threads (6.1,6.2). The threads receive collar nuts (10,11) which are displaced during operation of a knob (7) at one end of the spindle. A bracing plate (12), located transversely in front of the spindle, is fixed on the longitudinal sides of the seat. This plate has openings (12.1,12.2) allowing engagement of a connector (13) fixed to the collar nuts. Connecting rods (16), located between the connector and the lower end of the arms, ensure the transmission of the actions of bringing together or separating the arms relative to the seat plane.
