PURPOSE: To obtain the subject fiber having a high tenacity, high wet heat shrinkage characteristics and low dry heat shrinkage characteristics, capable of easily and strongly binding articles, when used as a fiber raw material on the package of the articles, etc., and enabling the tight package of the articles without causing the loosing of the packed articles. CONSTITUTION: This highly strong and highly shrinkable polyamide fiber comprises a copolyamide having a relative viscosityηr of >=2.8 in sulfuric acid and simultaneously satisfying following characteristics: tenacity (T) >=6.0g/d, boiling water shrinkage degree (Δw) >=30%, and dry heat shrinkage degree (Δs) <=20%. The fiber has structural physical properties expressed by a peak in a temperature range of 140-200 deg.C on a dry heat thermal shrinkage stress curve and a thermal shrinkage stress of >=0.2g/d at the peak.
