PURPOSE: To efficiently remove NOx even at high gas space velocity by using a catalyst in which a specific element is deposited on a carrier consisting of an activated alumina in which a relation between a radius of a narrow pore and a narrow pore volume satisfies a specified condition and having a specified specific surface area. CONSTITUTION: A denox catalyst for removing the NOx in an exhaust gas from an automobile engine, etc., is composed of a carrier consisting of the activated alumina in which the relation between the radius of the narrow pore and the narrow pore volume measured by a nitrogen gas adsorption method satisfies the condition X and the specific surface area is >=120m<2> /g and at least one kind selected from a group consisting of silver, boron, iridium and rhenium deposited on the carrier. In the condition X, when a total value of the narrow pore volume having <=300Å narrow pore radius is A, the total value of the narrow pore volume having <=50Å narrow pore radius is B and the narrow pore volume having 100-300Å is C, B is >=30% of A and C is <=15% of A. |
