PURPOSE: To shield the leakage of light, resulting from liquid crystal molecules not standing at an edge between a segment electrode and a common electrode, with black masks by forming the segment electrodes wider than color filters for the ends to range on the black masks. CONSTITUTION: On a segment substrate 2 as one glass substrate for a vertical orientation type liquid crystal display element 1, color filters 3 and black masks 4 are alternately placed to be in an upward and downward striped form. Segment electrodes 5 striped in the same direction as the color films 3 are formed on the color filters 3. The width Ws of the segment electrode 5 is formed greater than the width Wf of the color filter 3. In this area, the leakage of light is shielded with the opaque black masks 4. |
