The prosthesis has an intermediate component (10) with sliding surfaces which fits between a first anchor component (20) secured to the bottom of the tibia and a second anchor component (30) fixed to the top of the astragal bone. The lower sliding surface (34) of the intermediate component is convex and corresponds exactly to the upper concave surface of the second anchor component. These interacting sliding surfaces are defined as surfaces of revolution about an axis (40), such that they define a cross-section having a rounded V-shaped configuration. The upper sliding surface of the intermediate component and the corresponding lower surface of the first anchor component are flat, with a central tenon and groove (51-53) defining a straight guideway.
