PURPOSE: To eliminate need for a training period for equalization and to allow the system to be immune to external disturbance when a demodulation signal resulting from demodulating a modulated wave through a transmission line is automatically equalized in the automatic equalization method for the transmission reception system. CONSTITUTION: A transmitter 2 generates a modulated wave S3 based on an output S5 obtained by superimposing a pulse whose level is a specified amplitude±αonto a modulation signal S1 at all times. Then a receiver 3 detects an attenuation of the pulse superimposed on the modulated wave S3 through a transmission line 4 with respect to the specified amplitude±αThe distance of the transmission line 4 is estimated based on a frequency f1 of a carrier and the attenuation to set an initial value close to a true value of equalization coefficient data of an automatic equalization means 11 and to equalize automatically a demodulation signal S10.
